Sale and Rent Back 

Sale and rent back transactions may be suitable in certain circumstances, for example, where a seller wishes to release equity from their property but remain living in their house as a tenant.

Some sellers choose to sell and rent back their home as a means to obtain money to pay off debts. Alternatively, sale and rent back may be used simply as a means of raising capital to enable a better quality of life.

As a result of the concerns about the instances of mis-selling in the sale and rent back market raised by the Office of Fair Trading, the Financial Services Authority now regulates this activity, from July 2009.
